Role Overview:

This stand-alone role requires a strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen who can identify new market opportunities, strengthen existing partnerships, and expand our reach into key sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a business development strategy for the Salt Category, aligning with company objectives.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, in new and existing sectors.
  • Lead sales strategies, pricing, and contract negotiations.
  • Manage and expand relationships with existing customers across water technology, purification, food manufacturing and road maintenance sectors.
  • Conduct market research to stay ahead of industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory requirements.

Key Requirements:

As a Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth, safe and efficient running of the Hardware Warehouse. You will oversee the intake and dispatch of products, the safe and correct storage of both and the internal movement of both.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily hardware warehouse operations (receiving, storing, shipping)
  • Manage staff (holidays, clock cards & performance reviews)
  • Supervise the team that are handling hardware products (tools, building materials, etc.)
  • Ensure accurate stock levels and reconcile discrepancies
  • Meet order fulfilment targets
  • Enforce health and safety procedures (manual handling, PPE, etc.)

Qualifications and Skills:

Key Responsibilities

Strategy:

Support the Head of Procurement by assisting in the development and implementation of Procurement Strategy, aligned to the overall Company, Department and Sub-Category Goals and Strategies.

Market Insight:

Monitor market dynamics, industry developments, competitive landscape, emerging technologies, to identify opportunities, inform procurement decisions, mitigate risks.

Range management:

Implement agreed processes to manage product ranges within the various Department portfolios, a competitive & innovative assortment.

Supply / Fulfilment:

Implement agreed processes to manage internal procurement processes (sales history, forecasting demand, purchase requisitions, stock purchase orders, stock transfers) as well as supply-chain considerations (capacity, constraints, lead times, delivery schedules) – to ensure material requirements are met ‘on time & in full’.

Inventory Management:

Implement and manage agreed processes to optimise inventory levels to minimize stockouts and excess inventory.

Cost Optimisation:

Formulate and oversee buyers’ negotiation of terms & conditions, price, request for proposals (RFP’s), request for quotation (RFQ’s), bid evaluations, delivery charge – to ensure optimal product cost.  

Price Optimisation:

Leverage market insight, understand competitiveness (price index), take on board sales team feedback, implement price management strategies to ensure buyers maximise profitability and competitiveness & optimise margin.

Performance Management:

Utilise data-driven insights to track company, department and sub-category performance against target (sales, cost, margin, service, stock) and implement agreed processes to drive continuous improvement.

Supplier Management:

Oversee buyers’ collaboration with suppliers, building of relationships.

Oversee agreed processes to drive availability, innovation, lowest cost & drive continuous improvement.

Customer Engagement:

Oversee collaboration with suppliers, across the business to build relationships to deliver customer-centric initiatives and drive profitable growth.

Team Collaboration:

Collaborate cross-functionally to understand requirements of the procurement function & drive portfolio success.

Purchasing Administration:

Ensure all necessary administration duties are fully completed by all teams in the, (requisitions, stock orders, stock transfers, invoice matching, bid evaluations, credit notes other). Implement agreed processes to ensure this is done in the most efficient manner. Ensure the most efficient and innovative use of the companies ERP system ‘Intact’ to streamline and optimise all these processes and ensure best possible integration with companies WMS, Webshop, reporting processes, etc.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong academic bases with a strong bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Business, Supply Chain, Economics, or related field.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with proven experience (min 3-5 years).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and market trends, translate into insight to facilitate informed commercial decisions.
  • Strong procurement experience (including negotiation) with proven experience of optimising cost whilst a building and maintaining successful supplier relationships.
  • Strong communication, engagement & presentation skills.  Ability to engage stakeholders & influence positive outcomes. 
  • Experience in managing projects and balancing multiple priorities across many stakeholders.
  • Potential to develop strategic capabilities in the medium term.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, and experience with purchasing platforms and ERP systems.
